G. Fred Kohl, 93, passed away September 28, 2015, in Richmond, Virginia. He was born October 9, 1921, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late George and Ethyl (Drake) Kohl. Janet E. (Dozer) Kohl, 81, passed away December 14, 2015, also in Richmond, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband G. Fred Kohl, her parents Lawrence and Hazel (Dye) Dozer, a sister, Doris Greene, and a brother, Roger Dozer. Fred and Janet are survived by his daughter, Patricia Alford, of Richmond, VA; his son, Glenn Kohl, of Asheville, NC; and their grandchildren, Jonathan Alford, of Seattle, WA, Darrick (Suzy) Alford, of Atlanta, GA, Ellen Alford, of Charlottesville, VA, and Terra Sisk, of Mars Hill, NC; seven great-grandchildren, Molly, Oliver, Lily, Evelyn, Tyler, Jovi, and Gianna. Janet is also survived by her brother, Richard (Linda) Dozer, of Circleville; three sisters, Ruth (Frank) Scipione, of Worthington, Marian Oney, and Carolyn Lawhorn, both of Londonderry; as well as many nieces and nephews. Fred retired from Nationwide Insurance Companies as Director of Promotion and Advertising in 1981. He graduated from Capital University in 1942, and went on to graduate studies at the University of Florida while in the Army. He served during World War II in the 94th Infantry Division. His infantry unit was awarded a Presidential Citation for combat excellence in the Saar-Moselle triangle and breeching the German Siegfried Line. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Medal, and four major battle stars. Fred was a member of First Community Church in Columbus since 1957. Janet graduated with honors from Southeastern High School in 1952 and retired after 30 years at Nationwide Insurance Companies as an Executive Secretary. A memorial service will be held for both Fred and Janet at 11:00am on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Londonderry Cemetery. Burial will directly follow with the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard performing military graveside honors for Fred.
