Freda Swann Powell, dear mother, adored grandmother, cherished great-grandmother, resident of Friendship Village of Dublin, Ohio, formally a resident of Chillicothe, Ohio passed away on the evening of January 30, 2008. A memorial service will be held at 12:00pm Saturday February 9, 2008, at the HALLER FUNERAL HOME 1661 Western Avenue, Chillicothe, with Rev. James Grove officiating. Burial will be held in St. Margaret Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 11am until Noon Saturday at Haller Funeral Home. Born January 24, 1917 at Barboursville (Ousley's Gap) in Cabell County, WV, she was the sixth of twelve children of the late Robert Ambrose Swann and Mary Inez Hatfield Swann. After graduation from Barboursville High School she attended Marshall College in Huntington, WV and was a member of the Omicron chapter of Pi Kappa Sigma Sorority. She also attended Wiseman's Business College. On August 6, 1938 she married Robert Henry Powell at Johnson Memorial Church in Huntington. He preceded her in death on December 1, 1986 after 48 wonderful years of marriage. She lived in Chillicothe for over 50 years and was a valued partner with her husband in launching and operating the Men's Shop, a top quality clothing store in Central Center. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Chillicothe and a former long-time member of the Chillicothe Country Club. She was a past president of the Chillicothe YMCA Newcomer's Club, a charter member of the Junior Civic League of Chillicothe and an enthusiastic member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood of Chillicothe. She loved to travel, play bridge, read and golf, but her greatest love was her family and treasured friends. She took great pride in watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren grow and mature. In addition to her parents and husband, her six brothers (William, Ralph, Orno, Fred Robert and James), and three sisters (Louise Autrey, Francis Dixon, and Jane Keller) preceded her in death. Survivors are her son Robert (Sally) Powell of Upper Arlington, OH and daughter Swanda (David) Reddington of Pittsford, NY; five grandchildren, Dana (Patrick) Rowland, Andrew (Kim) Powell, Shannon Powell, Davin (Meghan) Reddington and Holly (Steve) Mangano; great grandchildren, Benjamin and Michela Rowland, Callan and Ada Reddington and Juliet Powell. Two sisters, Patty Derbyshire and Rosalie (John) Hunsaker of Huntington and beloved nieces and nephews also survive. The family wishes to thank the staff of Friendship Village of Dublin for their care and helpfulness over the last several years.
