After graduating with a master

s degree in chemistry from Miami University and a 2nd master
'
s degree in business administration from Ohio University
,
he worked as a research chemist at NCR in Dayton
,
OH; later Mead Paper Research in Chillicothe, having produced six patents along the way. He later worked with the Appalachian Rural Systemic Initiative Development Group (Project Discovery)
,
and also taught Ph
y
sics at Shawnee State Uni
v
ersity
,
Astronomy at Ohio University
Chillicothe, and was an Adjunct Visiting Distinguished Scientist at Miami University.
He was activel
y
involved in community service including: Executive Board of the National Council of Boy Scouts of America; Simon Kenton Council Commissioner (where he received the District

ard of Merit and The Silver Bea

er Award) and served as Chairman of the Chief Logan D
i
strict. He also served in many community organizations such as Rotary International as a Paul Harris Fellow and Rotary Club of Chillicothe (former President)

Trustee of Adena Regional Medical Center (Treasurer and Chair)

Walnut Street United Methodist Church (as Treasurer

Board of Trustees and Sunday School Teacher
);

was the 2006 Educational Hero of Ross County Chapter of the American Red Cross

member of The Ross County United Way Allocation Committee and The Sunset Club.
He thoroughly enjoyed doing crossword puzzles

going back more than 17 generations

revealing lineage to Martin Luther. He was very active in the Genealogical Society of Montgomery County. He enjoyed his John Deere tractor

and was an avid Ohio State Football fan.
U
ntil arthritis hindered him so
,
he loved being outdoors working with his bee hives
,
orchard and garden. Though his wife was a music teacher
,
she always credited him with his profound knowledge of classical music. His quiet demeanor and dry sense of humor will be so missed
.
