Frank Woods

April 12, 1956 — June 16, 2022

M. Frank Woods, 66 of Chillicothe, passed away Thursday evening, June 16, 2022 at the Adena Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his wife, family, and friends, following an extended illness.

Frank was born on April 12, 1956 in Ross County to the late Dale and Alice (Johnson) Woods. On July 24, 1999, he married his beloved wife, Dawn E. (Hughes) Woods, who survives. Frank is also survived by a sister, Sandy (Cliff) Kinnison; a sister-in-law Mickie Woods; a son, John Woods; daughters, Tammy (Jeff) Ackley, Jena Hines; a daughter-in-law, Sarah Hines; and grandchildren, Carrie Ann and Aliana Woods, Taylor, Brayden and Aubree Ackley, Tevaugn Beatty, Carson Hines, Mackenzie Hines, and Gage Hines. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Robert and Gene Woods, a sister Elaine Brown, and a son Randy Hines.
Just a few years out of High School, Frank entered the U. S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division, serving 4 years as a Paratrooper and airplane mechanic. Shortly after leaving the Army, he applied and was soon hired as a fireman for the Chillicothe Fire Department. It wasn't long before he started wishing he could do more than just fight fires and drive the squad. He saw people hurting and suffering and wanted to do more. Frank decided to take more training to become a Paramedic, proudly serving the citizens of Chillicothe for 31+ years, retiring in 2015 as a Senior Lieutenant. During those years he was awarded the Medal of Valor and was inducted into the Ohio Firefighters Hall of Fame. Frank was a true American Hero. He was always quick to downplay his military service, and was most proud of the years he spent serving the people of Chillicothe as a Firefighter and Medic.

Frank was an avid Biker for most of his adult life, putting many miles on several bikes he owned; even traveling to Sturgis and many other places. Even when he wasn't feeling well, Frank was always quick with a joke, a funny meme, or some crazy story from his years with the Fire Department.

This world is a brighter and better place because of Frank Woods. He will be greatly missed by the many who loved him, worked with him, and had the pleasure of meeting and knowing this remarkable man.

There will be no calling hours. A Last Alarm Service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at the Water Street Fire Station. Friends and family are invited to share a meal and memories at the F.O.P. Lodge at 290 S. McArthur St. in Chillicothe following services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the funeral home in his honor.
