F. Childers

Jewell Childers, 94, of Byesville, formerly of Chillicothe, went to be with the Lord January 31, 2022 due to natural causes. She passed peacefully at home; surrounded by family.   She was born February 8, 1927 in Jackson Co. to the late Joseph and Ethel Pettit Oty.  Survivors include three children: Richard E. (Patty) Childers, Waxhaw, NC, Sherry Childers, Chillicothe, and Teresa (Bill) Bacon, Byesville, OH; six grandchildren: Richard Childers, Alvin Travis, Cyndi Smith, Jeremy Childers, April Childers, and Adrian Bacon; two step grandchildren: Stephanie and Nayla; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Susan (Mike) Bays, Jeffersonville, IN.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Oty.   Jewell was a member of the New Hope Freewill Baptist Church.  While living in Byesville; she attended Christ United Methodist Church. Jewell retired from the VA Medical Center-Chillicothe in 1990 and was a member of, and volunteered for the Ross Co. Senior Citizens and the Londonderry Stars Program.   Private services will be held at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory.  Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital at www.st.jude.org .
