February 25, 1929 — November 2, 2008

Evelyn L. White, 79, of Chillicothe, passed away at 1:20 a.m. Sunday, November 2, 2008 at the Valley View Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Haller Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday, November 5, 2008 from 4 till 7 at Haller's where there will be a Beta Sigma Phi service at 5 p.m. She was born on February 25, 1929, in Chillicothe, Ohio to the late Lyell and Miriam (Henderson) McCarty. On August 3, 1945, she married Harold "Pat" White Jr. who preceded her in death on January 4, 1998. Surviving are her four children; Anita Lair of West Milton, OH, Debbie (Mike) Manson of Chillicothe, Patti (Richard) Childers of Plain City, OH, Harold "Chip" White III of Chillicothe; ten grandchildren, Lori (Doug) Geisler of Dublin, OH, Wendi (Scott) Thompson of Ludlow Falls, OH, Krista (Reck) Carpenter of West Milton, OH, Patrick (Christy) Lair of West Milton, OH, Mycah (Travis) Rourke of Chillicothe, Jennifer (Josh) Cutright of Chillicothe, Nayla (Jared) Granato of Clarksville, TN, Stephanie (Sean) Noltemeyer of Grove City, OH, Drew and Joey White of Chillicothe; fourteen great grandchildren, Emily, Jonathan and Jack Geisler, Corey Thompson, Allisten Carpenter, Samantha Burnette, Colton and Mikayla Lair, Michael and Patrick Rourke, Dane Cutright, Cayce and Ben Granato, Lainey Evelyn Noltemeyer; a brother, Ronald (Dorothy) McCarty; a sister, Angie Hendershot; sisters in law, Maggie McCarty, Betty Trego, Kay Sanders and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son in law Scott Lair, brothers and sisters in law, Volney (Phyllis) McCarty, John (Osie) McCarty; sisters and brothers in law, Audrey (Carl) Messer and Betty (Jack) Burnett. Evelyn and her husband owned and operated Pat's Food Market at the corner of Bridge and Main Streets for 36 years. After their retirement from the store in 1985 she worked part time at FW Woolworth in the Chillicothe Mall. For nearly five years Evelyn has resided at Liberty Village in Chillicothe where she was loved and respected by the very caring staff. She was active in their social functions including being a member of their Red Hat Club. Evelyn was a 56-year member of the Xi Delta Rho Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a 47-year member of Walnut Street United Methodist Church where she served as a co-director of their Junior Church Program for 17 years. She enjoyed volunteering for several charities in Ross County and as her children were going through school at the different school events. She was a past member of the Scioto Society Board of Trustees. She loved her trips to the beach and was an avid reader. She had a passion for genealogy and spent many hours with her sister Angie researching the history of their family. Evelyn was a loving and caring person that will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by all that knew her.
