Evelyn Scales

Evelyn E. Scales, 90, of Chillicothe, died 12:20 am, November 9, 2014 at Westmoreland Place Nursing Home, following an extended illness. She was born December 16, 1923 in Middlebury, VT to the late James and Edith Fletcher Root. On June 26, 1954 she married the late James A. Scales, who died in 2010. Survivors include her 5 children, Lesley Scales, Bridgewater, VT, Mark (Bobbie) Scales, of Waterford Works, NJ, Rhoda Scales and Debra Scales-Babineau, both of Chillicothe, and Valarie (Rich) Wingate, of Harlem, GA; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including two special nephews, Morris (Diane) Root and David (Joan) Palmer. She was preceded in death by two siblings, James Root and Judith Palmer. Evelyn retired as a legal secretary. She attended Middlebury College and loved to hunt, fish, camp, crochet, sew and knit. She was known for her beautiful wardrobe, that she had created. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday, November 23, 2014 at the Haller Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Randolph, VT. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at Haller's on Sunday the 23rd.
