Eula Burleigh

December 13, 1920 — March 28, 2019

Eula Burleigh's spirit ascended with Christ on March 28, 2019 surrounded by her family, following an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late Tealy Sr. and Georgeanna Alston, born December 13, 1920 in Nash County, NC. During the early 1900's, her parents moved the family to the Pittsburgh, PA area for improved economic opportunity. She and her siblings received their formal education through the Crafton Public School System of Pittsburgh.
She professed Christ at an early age and united with Second Baptist Church of Carnegie, PA under the pastorate of the late Rev. O. Lambert. Eula loved the Lord and faithfully served as an original member of the Sr. Choir, original member of the nurse's guild and Pastor's Aide. She had a sweet lead soprano voice and enjoyed singing and traveling with the "Keystone Gospel Singers" of Pittsburgh of which were mostly comprise of many family members and friends.
On March 22, 1941 in Willsburg, WV, she was joined in holy matrimony to the late Trustee Emeritus, Earmey N. Burleigh, Jr. They were married for sixty-three years.
Eula was a fantastic soulful cook. She was especially known for her mac n' cheese, cakes, and old fashioned bread pudding. One of her favorite dishes was fried spiced apples. Her greatest entertainment was her children, grands, sisters and brothers. She loved to attend and support many events such as baptisms, high school and college graduations, sports activities and attending those William Family reunions.
Shortly after her husband's death in 2004, Eula relocated to Chillicothe to be with her family and attended the First Baptist Church of Chillicothe where she was quickly embraced and loved.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Earmey; three sons, Dwight, Lloyd, and Ronald Burleigh; her parents, Tealy and Georgeanna; two sisters, Mary Williams and Nannie Alston; six brothers, Edward, William, Robert, Tealy Jr., Max, and Leroy Alston.
Left to celebrate her life is her daughter, Dr. Charlene (Mal) Burleigh-Payne, of Chillicothe; two sisters, Cecelia Trent of Pittsburgh, Emma Glover, of Cleveland; one brother, Jerry Alston, of Pittsburgh; three daughters-in-law, Mary Burleigh, of Carson City, CA, Marie De Volle, of Los Angeles, and Pauline Burleigh, of Pittsburgh; one sister-in-law, Mary Lee Burleigh, of Beltzhoover, PA; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
A homegoing service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the Second Baptist Church, 324 Mansfield Blvd., Carnegie, PA 15106, with Pastor Archie Perrin eulogizing and Pastor E. LaRue Davis officiant. Graveside services at Chartiers Cemetery in Carnegie, PA will follow. Friends may join the family for a visitation from 9:30am on Saturday until the time of the service. Local arrangements are under the direction of Haller Funeral Home in conjunction with Leo J. Henney Funeral Home in Carnegie, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the Second Baptist Church, 324 Mansfield Blvd., Carnegie, PA 15106 in her honor.
