Eugene E. "UE" Melchert, 71, of Frankfort, died 2:37 am, January 8, 2011, at the Adena Regional Medical Center. He was born April 11, 1939 in Detroit, MI to the late Pastor Elmer J. "EJ" and Virginia Hepner Melchert and grew up in Perrysburg, OH. Survivors include his fiancée, Vicki F. Campbell; her two children; and their children, who knew his as "Grandpa UE"; Vicki's parents; a brother, Dr. Charles (Anabel Proffit) Melchert, of Lancaster, PA; two sisters, Jude (Gordon) Melchert-Correia, of Newark, OH, and Pix (Milt) Melchert-Morgan, of Ashland, OR; a nephew, Tim (Lisa) Melchert, of Boise, ID; two great-nephews, Skylar and Gavin Melchert; numerous uncles; aunts; cousins; and dear friends including Larry Lallier and his family and Van Althouse. He was preceded in death by a son, Steve Melchert and a nephew, Mark Melchert. Mr. Melchert was a US Army Military Policeman and began his career in law enforcement there. He later served with the Chillicothe Police Department; the State of Ohio Division of Liquor Control; and retired in 2001 as a Regional Coordinator from MAGLOCLEN, a contractor for the US Attorney General's office. His favorite pastime and life-long passion was bass fishing. He truly enjoyed spending time with people. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was extremely generous, and had a true love of life. Funeral services will be held 4:00 pm Thursday at the Haller Funeral Home, with his close friend, Thomas Burke officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service, at the Cross Keys Tavern. Calling hours will not be observed nor his body viewed. Memorial contributions may be made to the Adena Health Foundation, Cancer Fund, 272 Hospital Rd., Chillicothe, OH 45601.
