Eugene Gabalski

June 29, 1932 — April 23, 2016

Eugene A. Gabalski, 83, of Worthington, died 6:20 am, Saturday, April 23, 2016, at The Laurels of Worthington, surrounded by his family. He was born June 29, 1932 in Buffalo, NY to the late John and Barbara Prelewicz Gabalski. On September 3, 1960 he married the former Barbara A. Henderson, who survives. Also surviving are seven children, Jack Gabalski, New Albany, Tom (Alissa) Gabalski, Columbus, Kathy Sichel, Gahanna, Carol (Michael) Haller, Chillicothe, Mary (Michael) Kingsley, Fredericksburg, VA, Mike (Tamara) Gabalski, Wooster, OH, and Chrissy Tyler, Columbus; 16 grandchildren, Tyler and Drew Gabalski, Abby (Nate) Parker, Grant and Margaret Sichel, Andrea, Benjamin, Nicholas and Daniel Haller, Katie and John Kingsley, Brittany, Kaila and Allie Gabalski, and Gabrielle and Marcus Tyler; three great-grandchildren, Brianna, Naomi and Levi; two sisters, Dorothy Witkowski, North Tonawanda, NY and Rita Heye, Seattle, WA; a sister-in-law, Adele Gabalski, North Tonawanda, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, David Alan; and two brothers, Rev. Msgr. John R. Gabalski PA, and Edmund Gabalski. Gene was dedicated to his faith and his family. He was a graduate of the St. Mary Preparatory Catholic High School, Orchard Lake, MI and received his Bachelor Degree from Canisius College, Buffalo, NY. He worked in administration and management of several companies throughout his career. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Worthington, where he was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus Council 11445, and a 4th Degree Knight. He also volunteered with the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Employment for Seniors groups. Gene was a member of the Financial Executives Institute. He enjoyed playing golf and gardening, but most especially spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice, The Inn at Olentangy Trail Memory Care Unit, and The Laurels of Worthington for their excellent care. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Thursday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Worthington, Rev. Anthony A. Dinovo Jr., Celebrant. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 Wednesday at the Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, Worthington, where a Prayer Service, followed by the Knights of Columbus service, will be held at 8:00 pm Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus or St. Vincent DePaul Society, C/O St. Michael Church, 5750 N. High St., Worthington, OH 43085.
