Esther M. Cunningham, 96, of Chillicothe, died at 1:22am, May 11, 2025, at her home following an extended illness.
She was born January 29, 1929, in Chillicothe, to the late Alfred C. and Ethel (Thomas) Brown. On Nov. 23, 1951, she married Harry E. Cunningham, who died tragically February 27, 1967, in an accident at the Mead Paper Co.
Surviving are her two children: Tim (Alice) Cunningham; and Paula Beavers, both of Chillicothe; grandsons Mark (Melody) Cunningham, of Akron, and Drew (Maria) Cunningham, of Chillicothe; great-grandchildren: Mark Cunningham, Jr., Genesis Cunningham, Andrew Cunningham, Isiah Cunningham, and Azia Cunningham; great-great-grandchildren: Elijah and Camryn Cunningham; and a special cousin, Dorothy Jones, of Circleville. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by sisters Jane Barnhill, and Frances and Marie Brown; and a brother William Brown.
Mrs. Cunningham was a graduate of Chillicothe High School. She had worked at Britt's Dept. Store, GE and then retired from the VA Medical Center. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church. Esther was an avid sports fan and enjoyed gardening, cooking and cheering on the Cincinnati Reds and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Her funeral service will be held at 1pm Friday, May 16, at Old Zion Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. J. Troy Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call from Noon until 1pm Friday at the church.
