Ernest A. Roach, 93, of Chillicothe, died Monday, October 3, 2005, at Westmoreland Place Nursing Home. He was born March 7, 1912, in Lawrence Co., OH, to the late Jess and Carrie Robinson Roach. On December 3, 1932, he married the former Jewell Thornton, who survives. Also surviving are daughters Leila Martin; and LaVersa (John) Motes, all of Chillicothe; six grandchildren: Dr. Jeffrey Kim (Jane) Martin, of Chillicothe; Gregory Kent (Kim) Martin, of Columbus; Barry (Carla) Motes, of Louisville, KY; Joseph (Beth) Motes, Chillicothe; LaVersa Lee (Todd) Wood, Athens; and Laura Jean (Tim) Hill, of Chillicothe; eight great-grandchildren: Matthew and Nathan Martin; Allison and Brandon Martin; Micah Motes; Zach and Griff Motes; and Zoe Wood. He was predeceased by four brothers, a sister, and a son-in-law Donald "Pepper" Martin. Mr. Roach graduated from Mason Aid High School in Lawrence Co. in 1930 and from barber college in Huntington, WV in 1932. He operated a barber shop in Ironton until 1945 when he came to Chillicothe and worked at Roy Stewart's Barber Shop in the basement at Paint and Main Streets under The Savings Bank, now Huntington Bank. He operated barber shops in Xenia and Dayton retiring 1979 after 47 years as a barber. He then moved back to Chillicothe. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church and the Ross County Senior Citizens. Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm Wednesday, October 5, at the Haller Funeral Home with Rev. Marlin Penwell officiating. Entombment will follow in Valley View Memory Gardens, Xenia, OH. Friends may call from Noon until 1:30pm at the funeral home.
