Erna Wilkes

Erna B. Wilkes, 92, of Chillicothe, formerly of Oak Ridge, TN and Palm City, FL, joined her husband with the Lord at 11:43am June 18, 2013. She was born February 21, 1921, in Chattanooga, TN, to the late Louis Philip and Frieda Olga (Hein) Beyer. She is survived by her children: Diane V. Vedder, of Palm City, FL; Dennis (Louise) Wilkes, of Wartburg, TN; Donald J. (Beverly) Wilkes, of Chillicothe, OH; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 31 years, Walter Jackson "Jay" Wilkes, Jr.; and 6 brothers and sisters. Erna was a graduate of Chattanooga High School, Class of 1939. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Oak Ridge and Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Palm City. She loved flower gardening and birding. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Oak Ridge Memorial Park, Oak Ridge, TN. Arrangements are under the direction of Haller Funeral Home.
