Emily Leedy

Emily L. Leedy, 89, of Chillicothe, died January 9, 2011, at the Adena Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness. She was born September 24, 1921 in Jackson, OH to Raymond S. and Grace G. Garrett Foster. She married the late William N. Leedy, who died July 26, 2007. Survivors include her son, Dwight Leedy, of Chillicothe and three sisters, Nancy Elizabeth, Helen Marie, and Virginia June. Mrs. Leedy was a graduate of Rio Grande College and Ohio University. She was an educator, having taught in several schools in the Ross County, Chillicothe, Berea, and Flossmoor, IL School Systems. She was a former Women's Service Division Director for the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services. She served on several boards throughout Ohio including the Cleveland Welfare Federation, the YWCA, and as the Ohio Women's Initiative Spokesperson for AARP. She received numerous awards for her service including the Cleveland Area Woman of Achievement and was named to both Chillicothe/Ross Women's Hall of Fame and the Ohio Women's Hall of Fame. Graveside funeral services will be held 10:00 am Thursday in Grandview Cemetery, Rev. Jeffrey Wheeler officiating. Calling hours will not be observed.
