Eldred O. "Jake" Graves, 92, of Chillicothe, died at 7:07pm March 28, 2021, at his residence. He was born May 10, 1928, in Vinton County to the late Jesse O. and Dessie L. (Clary) Graves. On February 3, 1955, he married the former Kathryn L. Hammond, who preceded him in death in 2005. He was also predeceased by a brother Estel Graves and sister Jessie Mayer. Surviving are his daughters: Gina (Peter) Lyons, of Kingston; Kyna Tallmon and Kimberly (Stephen) Bettendorf, both of Chillicothe; grandchildren: Ticey (Scott) Stout, Shane Tallmon, Kyla (Josh Wilkes) Lyons, Emily Lyons, Hadley (Rease) Tatman, and Trader (Ryker Nott) Bettendorf; great-grandchildren: Gage Stout, Eden Stout and Story Dee Tatman; his sister Earlene McCall; a sister-in-law Rosemary Graves; and his special friend Judy Scott, who blessed his life in later years with companionship, laughter and above all, love. We are blessed to have considered her part of the family. In his youth, Jake was an avid baseball and softball player, having played on several championship teams in Chillicothe. He graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1947 and from Bliss College of Stenography in 1949. He served his country in the US Army from 1950-1952, and retired from the Mead Paper Co. following 35 years of service. Jake was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church and in recent years had attended Walnut St. United Methodist Church. He filled our home with music. He loved playing his mandolin, Bill Monroe and Bluegrass music. The family would like to give special thanks to Adena Hospice, Dr. John Seidensticker and his son Bill Seidensticker, nurse Kara Edmiston and Shelly Kutschbach-Horch for their care and compassion. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Thursday, April 1, at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Vera Welker officiating. Military graveside services will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the funeral on Thursday at the funeral home.
