Edward Gahm, 72, of Chillicothe, died Sunday evening, January 15, 2006, at his home, with his loving family surrounding him, following an extended illness. Ed was born in Madison Co. on October 11, 1933, to the late Raymond W. and Hazel M. (Shoemaker) Gahm. He graduated from Stokes Twp. (South Solon) in 1951. On June 4, 1951, in Richmond, IN, he married the former Betty Lou Cook, formerly of Jeffersonville, OH, who survives. They have four children: son and daughter-in-law Mike (Connie) Gahm, Chillicothe; daughters and sons-in-law Julie (Robert) Saunders, of West Union, OH; Tracy (Larry) Lallier and Tammy (Joe) Immell, all of Chillicothe; 8 grandchildren: Jessica and C.J. Immell; Josh (Kelly) Lallier, Kendra Lallier, Corey & Cody Gahm, Sara & Anna Saunders; and two great-grandchildren: Hallie Madison and Hunter Edward Lallier. He got such a blessing from all of these grandkids, who called him "Pappa", and Hallie call him "Pappa Ed". He was predeceased by his parents and best buddy, Ray McKeever. Ed was a retired farmer and had retired from the Ross Co. Sheriff Department in 1996, after 29 years as a deputy. He then went back to work part time for 3 years as court house security. He was especially fond of the girls in the Clerk of Courts, often baking them brownies. He was a very respected deputy, who leaves a lot of good memories and friends. He was a member of Chillicothe Baptist Church for 21 years where he taught Sunday school, was a deacon, sang in the choir and the Singing Christmas Tree, and served on several committees. He was also a member of the Buckeye State Sheriff Association and the Fraternal Order of Police. He enjoyed his sports, the Cincinnati Reds, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Cleveland Browns. Ed also enjoyed planting his flowers in his many flower gardens and watching them grow. Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Thursday, January 19, at the Chillicothe Baptist Church, with his good friend and pastor, Rev. John Burris officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Kingston. Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-9pm at Haller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either: "Giving to Grow" Fund %Chillicothe Baptist Church, 341 Clinton Rd., Chillicothe; or Adena Hospice, 272 Hospital Rd., Chillicothe.
