Edna Newland

Edna J. Newland, 84, of Chillicothe, was called home on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Westmoreland Place Nursing Home, following an extended illness. She was born February 6, 1926 in Ross Co. to the late Louis E. and Leona Shoemaker Gire. She was preceded in death by Lewis W. "Mann" Newland, her husband for forty-one years, who died September 29, 1987. Survivors include her three sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy (Carole) Newland, Glenn (Regina) Newland, and Tommy (LaDonna) Newland, all of Chillicothe; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon (Steve) Rinehart, of Chillicothe; seven grandchildren, Kim (Richard) Ginther, Chad (Sabrina) Newland, Dawn (Brad) Hager, Deric (Regina) Newland, Travis (Caridi) Rinehart, Josh Newland, and Blake (Kelly) Rinehart; 14 great-grandchildren, Ashley (Ryan) Newman, Cassandra and Marisa Newland, Brock Ginther, Montana, Maizie and Maille Hager, MiKayla an Bryce Newland, Brandt and Linnix Rinehart, Savannah Bircham, Gracie Davis, Skylar McDonald; step-grandchildren, Tonya Duty, Cita Riddle, and Carrie McDonald; a special niece Janet (Jim) Borders and special friends Ardith Chaney; Dick and Betty Ginther; and the Hirsch Family. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Dale, Jack, and Morris "Mossy" Gire and sisters Maxine "Sear" Wilt and Jane Bridenbaugh. Edna retired from Hirsch Fruit Farm in 2002 with 33 years of service. She was also a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, homemaker and was well known for her cooking talents. She loved bingo and country music. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Thursday at the Haller Funeral Home, Rev. Rick Hartley officiating. Burial will follow in Twin Township Cemetery. Friends may call 5-8 pm Wednesday at Haller's.
