Edith Gaylene Zempter, 85, of Chillicothe, died peacefully on December 30, 2021, surrounded by her children. She was born on August 29, 1936, in Chelan, Saskatchewan, to C. Talbot Irwin and Christina McLean Irwin. She grew up in Beaver Falls and Trail, British Columbia, and graduated from J.L. Crowe Secondary School before attending the Victoria Normal School. Gaylene moved to Sciotoville with her husband and son in 1958 and raised her family in Scioto County, where she was a much-loved fixture at True Value Toytown and in her Berean Baptist Church community. After moving to Chillicothe in 2003, she found a new church family in Liberty Baptist Church. Her faith was a comfort and a guide to her throughout her life, and the unconditional love it inspired in her had an enormous impact on the lives of her children and grandchildren and everyone who knew her. She was devoted to her family and cherished every moment spent with them. In 1996, she received a liver transplant that extended her life by 25 years, during which time her youngest grandchildren and great-grandchildren were born. Her gratitude for this gift of life was matched only by the enormous appreciation her loved ones continue to feel for these priceless extra years with her. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents and two treasured sisters, Patricia Flanagan and Zandra Condon. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Cliff Zempter; her children Dan (Terrie) Zempter, Christy (Laura Harrison) Zempter, and Teresa (Doug) Corcoran; her grandchildren Jennifer (Brandon) Entler, Andrew (Tayler) Zempter, Corey Zempter, Casey (Iraís García Rivera) Zempter, Kyelle and Gabe Corcoran; her great-grandchildren Maddie and Kate Entler; and countless extended family members and friends who were touched by her love and kindness. Following a private service, Gaylene will be interred in Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to Lifeline of Ohio, 770 Kinnear Road #200, Columbus, OH 43212, or Liberty Baptist Church, 1530 Western Avenue, Chillicothe, OH, 45601.
