Doy L. McCrary Doy L. McCrary passed from earth's labor to Heaven's reward on Wednesday, September 14, 2005, in Heartland of Chillicothe. He was born March 5, 1933 in Reform, AL to Luella and Collie Wimberly McCrary, who, along with a sister, Beulah "Bunny" Moore, preceded in him in death. He graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1952 and attended Wittenberg University, Springfield, OH and Ohio University. He served in the United States Air Force for 11 years as an automotive maintenance technician. He retired in 1997 from the Lockheed Martin Utilities Corporation as a Cascade Maintenance Supervisor. He was the first vice-president of the Ross County NAACP and President of the Black Improvement Corporation (BIC). Mr. McCrary was a faithful member of the Original Glorious Church of God In Christ, where he served as a Superintendent of Sunday School, President of the Deacon Board, Devotional Leader, choir member, and many other capacities. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Christine Hale Persley McCrary; daughter, Portia Lee McCrary, Camp Spring, MD; stepson, Elder Thomas Clark (Teresa) Persley Jr., of Lexington, KY; grandsons, Jason Antonio Curtis Lee McCrary, of Chillicothe and Timothy David Persley, Columbus, IN; granddaughter, Althea Alexandria Portia Lee McCrary-Anderson, of Camp Spring, MD; sisters Lillie Smith and Elsie Peterson; a brother, Carl W. (Louise) McCrary, all of Chillicothe, a brother O.D. McCrary, of Washington C.H.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held 12:00 pm Monday, September 19, 2005 in the Original Glorious Church of God In Christ, 123 W. Main St., with Bishop Melvin Maughmer officiating. Military graveside services conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Floral Hills Memory Garden. Friends may call 6-8 pm Sunday in the Haller Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
