Douglas M. "Jack" Temple, 90, died at 11:45am Saturday, August 23, 2014, in the VA Medical Center, Chillicothe, following an extended illness. He was born April 16, 1924, in Chillicothe, to the late Marshall and Ethel (Hurles) Temple. On January 16, 1943, he married the former Pansy M. Detty, who preceded him in death on June 7, 2000. Jack is survived by their 3 children: Sharon (Earl) Rogers; Doug R. (Janice) Temple; and Patsy (Elliott) Masters, all of Chillicothe; grandchildren: Mike (Dee) Rogers; John (Anita) Rogers; Marshall (Connie) Temple; Kristie (Mark) Williams, all of Chillicothe; Joe (Jenny) McGuire; Chad (Jennifer) McGuire; and Amanda Day, all of Dayton; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his parents, his wife, and 11 siblings. Jack worked as a truck driver for the Sands Hill Coal Co. He served his country in the US Army during WWII, fought at the Battle of the Bulge and received 4 bronze stars. He was a former member of the AMVETS, Post 4 and VFW, Post 108. Jack was an avid horseman throughout his life, starting with quarter horses but primarily Tennessee Walkers. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am, Wednesday, August 27, at the Haller Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Norman officiating. Military graveside services conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will follow in Londonderry Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8pm at Haller Funeral Home.
