Douglas Richards

Douglas L. Richards, 91, passed from this life on December 24, 2015 following a brief illness at the Adena Regional Medical Center. He was born in Chillicothe on May 14, 1924, to the late Judge Thurman and Sylvia Irene (Scott) Richards. On March 15, 1952, he married Eleanor Ann Spetnagel, who preceded him in death on January 4, 2010. He is survived by his three stepchildren, Marilyn Sue Holdren, Patricia Ann Wilson, and Johnny (Melinda) Kohn; a son-in-law, Donald Welshimer; two sisters, Orpha I. Richards-Wade, and Ann N. (Louis) Richards-Skaggs; a brother, Timothy (Lee) Richards; a niece, Nancy (Linn) Wade-Gray; 15 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Douglas was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Vivian Lee Welshimer, two grandsons, Donald Welshimer, Jr., and Brian Kohn, a sister, Audrey Hiles, and four brothers, Milton, Calvin, Frank, and Patrick Richards. He retired from North American Rockwell after 33 years and was a WWII Army Air Corp veteran, having served in Guam. He was a member of The First Church of God in Chillicothe, proudly serving as an usher. He was also an active member of the Prime Timers (over 50 group) of the church for many years. Douglas was an avid Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State fan, and he loved going to the Chillicothe Paints games. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 28, 2015 at 11:00am at Haller Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Roe officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00am until the time of the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations be made to the First Church of God Building Fund, 780 E. Water St, Chillicothe, Ohio, 45601.
