Douglas (Gator) M. Ortman Douglas (Gator) Ortman, 58, lost his valiant two year battle with cancer at home on February 25, 2006. He was born in Kingston, OH on October 3, 1947 to Russell E. and Marilyn Ortman Stewart. Doug was an employee of Telesis Technologies of Circleville for almost 32 years, having been the first employee of John Robertson, Founder of Telesis. Doug volunteered for the United States Army in 1969, and served three years during the Viet Nam Conflict, spending time in Thailand as a communication specialist for NATO, and receiving several medals during his service. After leaving the Army, he attended Ohio University, Athens. During the mid-70's he volunteered to work for environmentalist Ralph Nader, national known as "Nader's Raiders", testing water for environmental safety in the Athens area. He also traveled with the band, Pure Prairie League as a "roadie" during the 70's, having a great ear for sound. Doug had a great appreciation for music with an uncanny memory for all types of band trivia. He also was a railroad enthusiast, following in the footsteps of his father, uncle, and grandfather, making detailed HO model trains. He is survived by his wife, Marsha; son Andrew Ortman; Marsha's children, Carrie Ralston and Justin Rinehart, sisters Gail (Glenn) Douglas, Susan (Phil) Adkins; brothers Craig (Joni) Freiesleben, Wayne Freiesleben, Scott Conrad, Ed (Joni) Reid, Charlie (Marilyn) Ortman, and Tom (Judy) Ortman. He is also survived by his step-mother of 50 years, Pat Ortman; as well as may beloved nieces, nephews, and a special uncle John Ortman. Doug was preceded in death by his mother and father; sister, Carolyn Ortman Brown; brother Terry Reid and nephew Ricky Brown. Calling hours will be held 5-7 pm Wednesday, March 1 in the Haller Funeral Home. A wake service will follow in the Cross Keys Tavern. Private graveside services will be held in Mt. Carmel Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of Hospice, 111 W. Water St., Chillicothe, OH 45601. In the end, Gator says goodbye to all the Varmits.
