He served his internship and his residency in Internal Medicine at Cincinnati General Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. It was while living there he met Marcella Enderlin, and they were married in 1959. Upon returning to the US, he completed his fellowship in Metabolism and Endocrinology at Cincinnati General Hospital in 1964. He held Board Certification in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. Dr. Klink was in private practice at Internal Medicine of Milwaukee from 1964 until 1999, and was recognized by his peers as a leading physician in the field of Endocrinology, especially treatment of diabetes. Following his retirement from active practice in 1999, he continued to serve the medical community for many years by improving awareness and treatment of diabetes through medical directorship and teaching family practice residents, and served on the board of the Concordia College of Nursing. Dr. Klink was an attending physician at Columbia Hospital in Milwaukee, WI and served in multiple leadership roles, including Chairman of the Departments of Medicine and Endocrinology. He served as Medical Director of the Diabetes Treatment Center of America at Columbia Hospital, and was an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He was an avid golfer, taking up the sport at age 10, using a wooden shaft putter on sand greens. While stationed in England, he qualified to compete in the British Open as an amateur. He continued golfing well into his 80s, and greatly enjoyed time spent with good friends on the golf course. Doug and his beloved wife Marcella treasured time spent with family and friends, especially at their cabin "Up North." Graveside services will be conducted at 10am Friday December 28, in Grandview Cemetery under the direction of Haller Funeral Home & Crematory.
