Dorthea Huffman

Dorthea Huffman, previously of Waverly OH, graced this earth with her loving and kind spirit for 96 years. Her life here peacefully ended May 14, 2021, in her sleep. A woman of faith and the heart of her family, Dorthea nurtured their spirituality by her tireless Christian example, and also loving them through their challenges. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that touched the hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her nurturing love and faith.   She was born September of 1924, the daughter of Randall and Julyna Smith and spent most of her childhood in Vinton County. Dorthea was deeply loved by her husband of 60 years, Bernard Huffman who preceded her in death in October of 2017.   She leaves behind a daughter, Linda Recobs of Chillicothe; son-in-law, Robert Bixler, of Chillicothe; sister, Lavonne "Bonnie" Rhoads, of Waverly; and brother, Herbert Smith, of Chillicothe. Also surviving are grandchildren: Vicki (Eric) Wissler, Diana Francis, Rev. Tom (Kara) Parsons, Jr., Christie Bixler, Robert Bixler, Jr., Steven Ray, II and Amanda (Ronnie) Bolen. Her 19 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews brought her joy. Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband are two daughters Cynthia Bixler and Crystal Parsons, two sons Timothy Ray and Rev. Steven Ray, 1 grandson Timmy Ray Jr., 1 granddaughter, Staci Parsons, as well as brothers Randall Smith, Jr. and Charles H. Smith; and sister, Leah Jean Elliott.   Dorthea retired from General Electric in Circleville, Ohio. She was a member of Bailey Chapel in Piketon, OH. She loved to cook, sew, play cards and spend time with her children and grandchildren. Her warm smile, endless patience, prayers before dinner, piano playing and loving words of affirmation will linger forever in the memories of her family.   Viewing will begin at Noon Monday, May 24th with funeral services to follow at 1PM at the Haller Funeral Home with Rev. Jeffery Rhoads officiating. Burial will follow at Londonderry Cemetery.   The family wishes to thank the staff of National Church Residences (Traditions) and NCR Hospice for their loving care.
