Dorothy E. Whitman-Perry, 92, of Chillicothe, formerly of Columbus, passed away early Thursday morning, December 5, 2019 at Traditions in Chillicothe, following an extended illness.
She was born March 16, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Marvin and Helen (McLain) Reinhardt.
Surviving are her children, Marilyn (Michael) Hurst, of Matthews, NC, Barbra (Tom) Peterson, also of Matthews, NC, and Jim (Beverly) Whitman, of Chillicothe; seven grandchildren, Marc (Sara) Hurst, of Orlando, FL, Matt (Rhea) Hurst, of Smyrna, GA, Courtney (Rob Wallace) Peterson, of Tampa, FL, Kelci (Jon) Williams, of Charlotte NC, Amy (Justin) Dalton, of Tampa, FL, Anna Whitman, of Chillicothe, and Cassie McSweeny, of Detroit, MI; as well as two great-grandchildren, Amanda Hurst, of Orlando, FL, and Quinn Williams, of Charlotte, NC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Howard Gibbs.
Dorothy was a graduate of South High School. She went on to work at various office jobs before settling into her passion of working as a seamstress. She moved around the Columbus, Ohio area for most of her adult life and attended numerous churches over the course of several years. Her religion was extremely important to her and she most recently attended the Liberty Baptist Church in Chillicothe before her illness prevented her. In her free time, she loved to go swimming, waterskiing, playing tennis, and dancing.
In accordance with her wishes, private services held at the convenience of the family will take place at a later date.
