Dorothy (Prater) Stukes, 66, of Chillicothe, formerly of New Orleans, LA, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 14, 2018, at the Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. She was born July 23, 1951, in New Orleans, LA, to the late James Cage and Anniebelle (Nellon) Prater. Surviving are her children, Tamara (Andrew Williams) Small, Spring, TX, Tevis Q. (Ericka) Stukes, Chillicothe, OH, and Nicole Williams, Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Tatayanna D. (Kirk Moore) Thomas, Shenandoah, TX, Tiana N. Small, Spring, TX, Sir Cameron A. Williams, Spring, TX, Jeremy A. Williams, Colorado Springs, CO, Tevis Stukes, Jr., Tomball, TX, Karress Guidry-Capers, Atlanta, GA, and Darius Sims, Chillicothe, OH; Great-Grandchildren, Kaidence D., Kirk D. Jr., and Karmelo D. Moore, all of Shenandoah, TX; siblings, Samuel (Sheila) Prater, Sr., New Orleans, LA, Barbara J. (Clyde) Frazier, New Orleans, LA, Ruth Lee Grayson, Metairie, LA, Annie Bell Turner, Bassfield, MS, Shirley Clements, Atlanta, GA, and Carol Clark, New Orleans, LA; and special friends, Kathy Sims, Faye Barnes, Betty Coleman, all of Chillicothe, OH, and Roscoe Rush, New Orleans, LA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Ernestine Washington, Roosevelt Proby, Sr., Gloria J. Robinson, and Ethel Lee. Dorothy worked for the Orleans Parish school board, and was Deputy Sheriff in New Orleans and Calcasieu Parish, LA for many years before moving to Chillicothe. She was a member of the New Life Christian Church in Chillicothe, a member of the Nineveh Baptist Church in Kenner, LA pastored by Rev. Sam Barker, and an advocate for Hurricane Katrina victims and survivors. But most of all, she loved her children and her grandchildren dearly. A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the New Life Christian Church, with Elder Victor Cousins officiating. Friends may join the family for a visitation from 11:00am until the time of the service Saturday.
