Dorothy Merritt

Dorothy M. Merritt, 102, of Chillicothe, affectionately known as "Granny," died at 9:55am December 10, 2015, at her residence. She was born July 22, 1913, in Fayette County, OH to the late Joe and Lilly (Lynch) Dove. On October 19, 1933, she married Lewis Merritt, who preceded her in death August 9, 1988. Surviving are her daughters Barb Woollett; and Bonnie Smith, both of Chillicothe; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson; 2 sisters; 1 brother; and a son-in-law, Carl Smith. Following graduation from high school, Dorothy was no stranger to work. She worked at the former Hallie's Store and she and her husband were co-owners of Merritt's Fish Market. Funeral services will be held at 1pm Tuesday at Haller Funeral Home with Chaplain JD Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 5-7pm at Haller's.
