Dorothy W. Cousins, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away at her home in Columbus, surrounded by her loving sons, on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the age of 86. Born in Chillicothe, Ohio, on May 3, 1939, Dorothy lived a life full of love, service, and devotion to her family and community. In 1964 she married Kenneth P Cousins II and they spent 50 wonderful years together before his passing on September 13, 2014.
Throughout her career, Dorothy worked tirelessly as a Nursing Assistant at Hilltop Mental Hospital and Grant Hospitals. She later continued her commitment to helping others by working in housekeeping at Ohio State University. Her dedication to her work and the care she provided was deeply appreciated by colleagues and patients alike.
Dorothy found her greatest joy in spending time with her family, whose lives she touched with her kindness, wisdom, and warmth. She is survived by her cherished children, George Leo Tyler Jr. of Columbus, Charles E. Tyler of London, OH, Wayne A. (Toni) Tyler of Columbus, and Timothy T. Tyler of Columbus. She also leaves behind her dear step-children, Holly Cousins of Chillicothe and Jeff Cousins of North Carolina. Dorothy was like a mother to Tim Tyler Jr. who she raised from birth. Dorothy was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her legacy of love and compassion.
In addition to her immediate family, Dorothy is survived by many nieces, nephews, and countless other family and friends who adored her. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Arthur Johnson and Mary Stanley, her step-children Debbie Taylor and Kenneth Cousins III, her daughter-in-law Cindy Tyler, and ten siblings.
Dorothy's bright spirit and enduring love will be terribly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. May she rest in eternal peace.
A Funeral Service will be held to honor Dorothy's life at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory in Chillicothe. Reverend Moses Edwards will officiate the service, which will be followed by her burial at Greenlawn Cemetery.
