Dorothy Castor

October 14, 1913 — April 8, 2008

Dorothy M. Castor died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at the Westmoreland Place Nursing Home where she had been a resident since November. She was 94. She was born Oct. 14, 1913 to Walter and Emma (Heisel) Reis, and in 1937, she married Kent Castor who preceded her in death in 1972. She is survived by her two children, Nancy Jo Jones of Corona, Ca, and Tom Castor of Chillicothe. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Andrew Jones of Riverside, Ca. and Mrs. Brian (Joanna) Kahn of Cottage Grove, Mn. Dorothy was a great grandmother to three children, the latest of which arrived April 4th in California -- Kieran Vaughn Jones. Dorothy retired from the Mead Corp. in 1978 and had worked at the print shop, but primarily in personnel on the Chilpaco side. She is survived by three sisters: Mrs. Robert (Norma Jean) Riley of Chillicothe, Mrs. Virgil (Ruth) Maul of Los Angeles and Mrs. Willard (Jane) Ewart of Key Biscayne, Fl. One brother survives, Lawrence (Elsie) Reis of Reynoldsburg, Oh. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Donald and John Reis. All four of the brothers served in World War II, and the eldest brother, Robert, was killed in that war. Dorothy served as the president of the Women's Auxiliary of Ross County Post No. 62 of the American Legion in 1948-49 and was a life member of that organization. She converted to Catholicism in 1977 at St. Mary Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Saturday, April 12, Rev. Lawrence Hummer, Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Haller Funeral Home, where a wake service will be held at 7:30pm. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff of Westmoreland Place, who were so attentive to our mother's needs in the last days of her life on earth. We were impressed with your attention to detail and the genuine concern you have for your residents. If our mother had to be in a nursing home, we're glad it was Westmoreland.
