Dora Ward

March 22, 1936 — March 31, 2009

Dora L. Ward, 73, Chillicothe, OH, passed peacefully to be with her Savior in heaven forevermore on Tuesday March 31, 2009, at home with her family after a yearlong battle with a brain tumor. Dora was born March 22, 1936, in Dema, KY, to Bart T. and Margaret Gayheart Mead. On March 4, 1953, she married Glendon C. Ward, who preceded her in heaven on May 26, 1997. Dora was a member of Mt. Tabor Community Christian Church for 39 years where she served as a custodian for 26 years, nursery keeper for 16 years, President of the Ladies Missionary Society for 15 years and vice-president for 2 years and secretary/treasurer for 2 years and Sunday school teacher for the new converts class for 11 years helping many new Christians learn about and understand God's Word. She loved music, especially bluegrass gospel, and was a member of the Mt. Tabor Church Band where she enjoyed playing her mandolin. She was a wonderful and supportive mother, wife, and Christian who devoted herself wholeheartedly to her God, her family and her church. Dora is survived by her three children: daughter Karen Cydrus and partner Tim Krafthefer; son and daughter-in-law Steve and Tammy Ward; and daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Stephen DePugh, all of Chillicothe; four grandchildren: Traci (Shane) Haubeil, Katrina (Jason) Robinson; Kathryn Cydrus and Anthony Ward, all of Chillicothe; one step-granddaughter Melissa (Randy) Hanson, of Belle Center, OH; eight great-grandchildren: Lauren, Brice, Ronnie, Emily, Isabelle, Dalton, Meredith and Phoebe; sisters Velma Glea Ward, of Chillicothe; Patricia (Russell) Newman, McDowell, KY; Vivian (Drexel) Hall, of Shepherdsville, KY; Ann Hasch, of Louisville, KY; a brother Ted (Patricia) Meade, of Louisville, KY; mother-in-law Lillie Ward, of Chillicothe; brothers-in-law Edward Howell, of McDowell, KY; and Earl V. Ward, of Ezel, KY; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors whom she dearly loved. Her closest friends were her church family and Everett and Donna Blanton. Dora was also preceded to heaven by her Mother and Daddy; two sisters Sally Junella Mead and Geraldine Howell; brother-in-law Franklin D. Ward; and father-in-law Russell Ward. Dora was a bright and shining star to everyone who knew her and loved her. She always felt so unworthy and unnecessary but that humbleness was part of what made her so special and so wonderful. She will be greatly missed, but we look forward to seeing her again in Heaven. Many thanks go out to the staff of Southern Care Hospice Program. And a special thank you to Dr. Dan Colopy, Debbie Basye, RN, and aides Pam Butler and Lisa Schaeffer who provided comfort, care and support in Dora's last months. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, April 4, in the Mt. Tabor Community Christian Church, 6043 Mt. Tabor Rd., with Rev. Rick Hartley officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Dinner and gathering will follow the burial at Mt. Tabor Fellowship Center. Friends may call from 5-8pm Friday at Haller Funeral Home.
