Donald Lee Posey, 80, of Greenfield, passed away early Friday morning, July 8, 2022 at the Adena Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness.
He was born September 5, 1941 in Frankfort, Ohio, son of the late James Arthur and Ada Pansy (Morris) Posey. On December 27, 1963, he married his beloved wife, Sharon Lynn (Stuckey) Posey, and together they shared over 58 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, surviving are five children, Brent (Amber) Posey, of Allensville, Cheryl (Dale) Arnott, of Greenfield, Donna Posey, of Chillicothe, Andrea (Jesse) Tennison, also of Chillicothe, and Brett (Misty) Posey, of Frankfort; 17 grandchildren, Colt Posey, Corbin Walter, Lane Stewart, Silas Stewart, Kyle Tennison, Dillon Brannon, Brett Posey, Jr., Bryndlelyn Posey, Jordyn Posey, Greyson Posey, Megan Rinehart, Tori Allen, Micah Walter, Shannon Ireland, Britney Posey, Sarah Posey, and Dakota Allen; 12 great-grandchildren, Dawson Allen, Madelyn Posey, Tucker Allen, Wilder Allen, Remington Walter, Kylin Tennison, Rylan Tennison, Janson Tennison, Ashlynn Tennison, Braydon Posey, Madison Lusk, and Payton Ireland; a sister, Mary Pettit; two brothers, Ben Posey, and Billy Joe Posey; a close friend, Lloyd Wood; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Jenny Deacon and Betty Willet; brothers, Russell and Clifford Posey; and a beloved granddaughter, Brandy Posey.
Don was drafted into the United States Army on the day President Kennedy was assassinated, and served for 2 years before being honorably discharged. He went on to work for the next 28 years between the Ross Correctional and Chillicothe Correctional Institution before retiring as the acting Major. In his free time, he was an avid coon hunter and was a member of the American Kennel Club. He also enjoyed racing homing pigeons. He was a past member of the American Racing Pigeon Union, the American Redbone Coonhound Association, the National Redbone Coonhound Association, and local Racing Pigeon Clubs.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at the Haller Funeral Home with Pastor Butch Cooper officiating. Military graveside honors conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Friends may join the family for a visitation on Tuesday evening from 5:00pm-8:00pm at the funeral home.
