Donald D. McCoy, 89, of Chillicothe, died July 14, 2015 at National Church Residences-Chillicothe, surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 27, 1925 in Washington Court House, Ohio to Clarence W. McCoy and Goldie Faye Lane. Don was married to Mary Sue Rowe and is also survived by two children, Michael (Datha) and Cynthia (Terry); four grandchildren, Natasha, Christopher, Lauren, and William; and five great-grandchildren, Madilyn, Macy, Meredith, Noah, and Lillian. He was preceded in death by his sister Gladys and brother Mac. A 1943 graduate of McClain High School, he went on to serve during World War II in the United States Navy as an Aviation Ordinance Mate. After the war, he graduated with honors from the Coyne Electrical School in Chicago as an electrician. He was one of the first twelve people to be hired by DuPont in Circleville, Ohio and worked there from 1953 to 1985, retiring as a supervisor. Don was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church and served on various committees and activities. He was also involved in the Boy Scouts of America and served as a Scout Master for several years. Hobbies included building and flying model airplanes at R.O.R.K.S., where he was inducted into the R.O.R.K.S. Hall of Fame in 2007. Always the teacher, he was famous for telling his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to "Be Good and Study Hard". He inspired his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with his great work ethic, personal responsibility, and love of family. He will always be in our hearts. Funeral services will be held 10 am, Monday, July 20, at the Haller Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Pastor Euggle Robertson, officiating. Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Chillicothe. Friends may visit with Don's family on Sunday, July 19, at the Haller Funeral Home from 2 to 4 pm or one hour prior to the funeral on Monday.
