Donald Lyons

February 14, 1932 — August 19, 2014

Donald H. Lyons, 82, went to be with the Lord August 19, 2014, at Adena Regional Medical Center. Don was very courageous during his illness, always getting better. He was born February 14, 1932, in Ross County to the late Harold Jesse and Elma Ruth (Butcher) Lyons. On May 11, 2001, he married the former Linda Kay (Williams) Hill, who survives. Also surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law Dewayne "Butch" (Becky) Lyons; and Keith (Nancy) Lyons, both of Chillicothe; grandsons Cody and Tyler Lyons; sisters Evelyn Stulley, Waverly; and Marie Hass, Chillicothe. Don was a graduate of Southeastern High School, Class of 1951, where he lettered in four sports and excelled in hurdles and track. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy serving on the USS Colahan DD658 from 1952-1956. He was member of the First Wesleyan Church, the VFW, Past Commander of the American Legion, Post 757, Scioto Valley Radio Club, American Legion Amateur Radio Local 751, volunteered at the VA Medical Center and served on the Ross Co. Fair Board for 16 years. He was an amateur radio operator call #WB8MJW. Don was also formerly an EMT and volunteer firefighter for Jefferson Twp. Don retired in 1996 from the Mead Corp. after 45 years working as a pipefitter with his buddy Melvin McNichols. Don had a host of friends in all walks of life. He will be greatly missed, especially by his 4-legged canines Sydney and Abby. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Friday, August 22, at the Haller Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Fox officiating assisted by Anne Cox. Military graveside services conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Little Mound Cemetery, Richmond Dale. Friends may call Thursday from 5-8pm at Haller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either: First Wesleyan Church, 89 S. Mulberry St., Chillicothe; or the Ross Co. Humane Society, 2308A Lick Run Rd., Chillicothe, OH 45601.
