Diane Adele Lewe, 73, of Chillicothe, died on Friday, February 12, 2021. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 9, 1947 to the late Harry and Adele Lewe. Diane is survived by her husband of 45 years, Joseph J. "J.J." Pauls. They were married on June 28, 1975 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was predeceased by her brother, Harry Lewe and a very special cousin, Carol Harman. Surviving are sister-in-law, Karen Lewe of Ohio, niece Lesly Childress and her son Jesse Childress. Diane was a wonderful lover, companion and soul mate. She possessed the unique capability to encourage intellectual curiosity, to inform your conscience and touch your soul.
Diane was a professional Social Worker, BA University of Cincinnati, Master of Social Work, University of Chicago. Diane's 35 year professional career included positions at Virginia Beach Social Services, New Orleans Catholic Charities and lastly 25 years a Scioto Paint Valley Mental Health Center. During those 25 years Diane held numerous clinical and administrative positions culminating in nine years as Executive Director. Her professional life left a legacy of being a competent clinician, and excellent manager of people possessing a unique array of Executive Leadership skills. Diane was a masterful and successful negotiator. She embraced the opportunity to negotiated funding to provide vast array of services for the mentally impaired and addicted in a five-county area. Following her retirement in 2000 Diane became a 20-year board member of Hopewell Health System serving as President for a significant period.
Diane was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church serving as a member of the Pastoral Council, Lazarus Committee and Eucharistic Minister. She took particular pride and delight being an Alter Server for Funerals. She was devoted to her Faith.
Diane loved to care for and ride horses. She was grateful for Jackie Byers encouragement to get involved with horses and trail riding. She was passionate about boating, swimming, water skiing and camping; especially at Conley Bottom, Lake Cumberland, Kentucky. She was an enthusiastic gardener and was eager to learn how to be successful at it eventually becoming a Master Gardener. She was thrilled to be able to travel all over the United States, Europe and the Caribbean. She was an avid snow skier, constantly looking forward to skiing trips to Vermont, California, Nevada, Wyoming, Canada and especially Colorado, specifically Snowmass/Aspen.
Diane was eternally thankful for her many significant friendships, especially Lynn Albright of Chillicothe, Marge Twiname-Dugan of Fort Myers, FL; Glen & Gail Miller, Cincinnati, OH, and Diane Gonzales, of Chicago, IL.
Her husband J.J. extends a special and grateful appreciation for Tradition's, the private duty nursing, home health aides, and hospice staff. Their competence and sensitivity was exceptional.
In lieu of flowers, Diane requests that you contribute to the support of St. Mary's St. Vincent de Paul's Conference of Charity and Habitat for Humanity. Diane believed the primary message of the Gospel is service to the poor and disadvantaged.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00pm on Monday, February 22, 2021 at St. Mary Church, Rev. Lawrence Hummer, Celebrant. Friends will gather from 12:00pm until the time of the service at the Haller Funeral Home.
