Dessie Lawhorn

Dessie Mae Lawhorn, 78, of Chillicothe, died 9:57am on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at her home, following a brave battle with cancer.
She was born May 10, 1940, in Chillicothe, Ohio to the late Arthur and Esther (Elder) Jones. On October 3, 1959, she married John Albert Lawhorn, Sr., and together they shared 59 years of marriage before his passing on October 4, 2018. The two called each other and were known as Mother & Father, and they have now been reunited.
Surviving are their children, John (Teresa McComis) Lawhorn, Jr., Chillicothe, Sherri (Gary) Hoffman, Groveport, Mary (Stan) Skaggs, and Suellen (John) Gillum, both of Chillicothe; Erica (Jeff) Davis, of Chillicothe, whom they raised; 13 grandchildren, Amanda, John, Erica, Dustin, Jared, Andrea, Jason, Robin, Robert, Emily, Justin, Jordan, and Bubba "Ugly"; 22 great-grandchildren and one on the way; her siblings, Mary Hilf, Betty (John) Virgin, Arthur (Beverly) Jones, Jr., William (Doris) Jones, and Norma (Darrell) Collins; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, George Hilf.
Dessie was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family. In her free time, she enjoyed making ceramics, going shopping, and taking fishing trips with her husband John.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Haller Funeral Home with Pastor Brett Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may join the family for a visitation on Friday from 5:00pm-8:00pm at the funeral home.
