Deputy Lawrence M. Barnes Sr., 65, of Chillicothe has gone home to be with the Lord. He died 8:01 am, Wednesday, October 18, 2006, in the Adena Regional Medical Center, as a result of injuries received in the line of duty, while serving with the Ross County Sheriff's Department. He was born August 8, 1941, in Ross Co. to Merle and Edna Mae Merriman Barnes. On October 20, 1959, in Paintsville, KY, he married Janet Bentley, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Lawrence M. (Stephanie McDonald) Barnes Jr., and Anna J. West, both of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Jeremiah (Maria) West, Benjamin (Amanda) West, Brian Barnes, Eric Barnes, Mallory Martin and Anna Martin; a great-grandchild, Isaih West; his mother-in-law, Anna Judy; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lucky Bentley and Barbara Sharon Porter, of Minford; Debra Parker and Larry Bentley, of Portsmouth; Jerry C. (Patricia) Howard, of Reynoldsburg; Gary (Cheryl) Howard; Terry L. Howard; Chestine Howard, all of Chillicothe; nieces and nephews, Randy Brown, Joey Daniels, and Jody Beckler. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Daniels; and a brother-in-law Rev. Larry R. Howard. Lawrence served as a volunteer Sheriff Deputy since 1976. He was a volunteer fireman and served on the squad. He served as pastor of the Wellston Freewill Baptist Church and the Watt St. Church. He was a deacon at the Slate Mills Church and member of the Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ in Christian Union. He had retired from the Mead Paper Company serving in the maintenance, electrical and print departments. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday, October 23, 2006, in the Jefferson Ave. CCCU Church, Rev. Mark Clendaniel officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery with honors by the Ross Co. Sheriff's Department. Friends may call 2-6 pm Sunday in the Haller Funeral Home.
