Dean "Bill" E. Curtiss, 76, of Chillicothe, passed away at his home at 5:00am March 23, 2009, following an extended battle with cancer. He was born February 7, 1933, in Westerville, OH, to the late Fredrick C. and Minnie Emrich Curtiss. In 1977, he married the former Marcia L. McCabe, who survives. Also surviving are his daughter and son-in-law Christy (Charles) Spontelli, Bowling Green, OH; son Jeffrey D. Curtiss, Rock Hill, SC; step-son John (Michele) Fitzpatrick, Chillicothe; former daughter-in-law Karen Curtiss, Ashley, OH; grandchildren: Caitlin Spontelli, Curtiss Spontelli, Emily Curtiss, Hannah Curtiss, Brandon Fitzpatrick and Whitney Speakman; brothers Neil Curtiss, Texarkana, Ark; and David Curtiss, Las Cruses, NM. He was predeceased by his brothers Donald and Gordon Curtiss; a half-brother Fredrick Curtiss; and a half-sister Dorothy Hand. Dean served his country as a Sergeant in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Ohio State University and worked for Timken Roller Bearing Company. He was a member of the Crouse Chapel Church and the American Legion. He was a handy-man that enjoyed tinkering. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am Saturday, March 28, at the Crouse Chapel Church, Crouse Chapel Rd., with Pastor Doug Cox officiating and military honors conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the direction of Haller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Adena Hospice, 111 W.
