Dawna June Smith Fadal LaRock entered eternal life 12:02 pm, June 5, 2014. She was born June 4, 1946 to the late Howard M. and Mary Schneider Smith. Surviving are her son, William (Ken) Fadal II, of Chillicothe; his father, Col. William Kenneth Fadal; and his lovely wife, Sammie, of Waco, TX; sisters, Carole Rose Evans, of Chillicothe; Sylvia (Pete) Long, of Venice, FL; Diana LaTourette (her twin sister), of Ft. Wayne, IN; a brother, Richard Allan (Debbie) Smith, of Chillicothe; nieces and nephews, Richard T. Long, of Columbus; Larry (Carissa) LaTourette, Chicago, IL; and Mary (Tim) Baron, Ft. Wayne, IN; and their children; also her dearest adopted church daughter, Tammie (Keith) Tanner. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her adopted church daughter, Angela (Austin) Beverly. Dawna was a graduate of Chillicothe High School, Class of 1964. She served her country in the United States Air Force from 1964-1968. She was the first female recruiter in the USAF and the first female to teach at the USAF Recruiter Academy. Using the GI Bill, she graduated with honors from Laredo J.C., Sisters of Mercy Hospital, becoming a registered nurse. She graduated with advanced intensive care and trauma certification from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM in 1972. She worked in hospitals throughout the United States. She retired from the Chillicothe VA Medical Center in 1993. She was married to James Joesph LaRock from 1987 to 2009. She was a member and served as Chaplain of the American Legion Post 62. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Ross Co. YMCA. Dawna attended and was active in the following churches: Bethel Full Gospel Church, Christian Life Tabernacle Church, New Covenant Apostolic Church, Church of Deliverance, and the Martha Dawna Ministry. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Monday at the Church of Deliverance, Pastor Jeremy Beverly officiating. Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Soldier Square. Friends may call 11am -1 pm Monday, at the church. Dawna requests absolutely no flowers for her services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Adena Health Foundation, Cancer Fund, in honor of Dr. Ralph Roach, 272 Hospital Road, Chillicothe, OH 45601.
