David Straight

David R. Straight, 60, of Chillicothe, died at 12:15pm Sunday, February 28, 2010, in his home following his battle with cancer. He was born April 14, 1949, in Buckhannon, WV, a son of Leoma E. Linger Straight, of Chillicothe, and the late Charles R. Straight. On June 26, 1976, he married Pamela A. Makeever Straight, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Alicia M. Ely and husband Dr. Brian M. Ely, of Chillicothe; and Rachel M. Straight, of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren, William M. Ely and Allison M. Ely, both of Chillicothe; two brothers, Stephen A. Straight and wife Denise; and Ross E. Straight and wife Molly, all of Buckhannon, WV; a sister, Lorna A. Straight, of Chillicothe; and many nieces and nephews. David received his Bachelor and Masters degrees Ohio University and was an eighth grade science teacher for Huntington Middle School. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and also a member of the Ohio Education Assoc., the National Education Assoc. and the Huntington Local Education Assoc. David was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the NRA. He especially enjoyed hunting rabbits with his faithful beagle partner, "Missy." David was passionate about his "Oldies" music as well. He was fortunate to have developed and nurtured many lasting friendships. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, March 4, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, corner of Mulberry and Main Streets, with Pastor Tad Grover and Rise Straight Hanifan officiating. Friends may call Wednesday from 4-7pm at the Haller Funeral Home and at Trinity Thursday, 1 hour prior to the funeral. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Adena Hospice, 111 W. Water St., Chillicothe; or the American Cancer Society, 870 Michigan Ave, Columbus, OH 43215.
