David Allen Richter, Jr.

David Allen Richter, Jr., 73, of Canal Winchester, passed away Saturday evening, February 21, 2026, at OSU Wexner Medical Center, following complications from a lung transplant.

He was born July 18, 1952, in Chillicothe, Ohio, son of the late David Allen Richter, Sr. and Catherine Theresa (Matteo) Richter. 

He is survived by his beloved daughters, Elyse (James) Hopkins, of Canal Winchester, and Ciara Richter, of Columbus; his granddaughter, Giavonna; as well as numerous extended family members and close friends.

David was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy Reserves. He went on to work for Mead Paper Company for more than 20 years before his retirement. He was a member of The Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Canal Winchester for many years. 

A graveside service will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, February 27, 2026 in St. Margaret Cemetery. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no public calling hours. Attendees of the graveside service are encouraged to wear brightly colored attire to symbolize David’s New Life in Christ.
