David V. Medert, 70, of Chillicothe, died unexpectedly at Adena Regional Medical Center November 4, 2022.
The son of David R. and Patricia Fife Medert, he was born August 3, 1952 in Chillicothe. He is survived by his wife, the former Andrea Busse; his mother; a son, David Matthew (Kristina) Medert, with the US Navy, in Hawaii; sister, Melissa (Don) Darby; stepchildren, Alan (Missy) Johnson, of Chillicothe, Dalton (Kiersten) Busse, and Caitlin (David) Neely, of San Diego; grandchildren, Dianna and Maggie Medert, Kailee, Alex and Adam Johnson, Jay Sparks, Megan Bartoe, Rolf and Revna Busse, and Reagan, Kendall, Odin, Roslyn, and Zephyr Neely. He was preceded in death by his father and his first wife, the former Dianna Kail.
After graduating from Alexander High School in Albany, OH, Dave enlisted in the US Navy and served 23 years as a cryptographer. Upon his retirement, he held the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. He retired from the VA Medical Center-Chillicothe in 2019. Dave was involved in veterans' organizations including the Disabled American Veterans, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, serving as commander in chief, and the VFW. He was active in Freemasonry, serving as District Deputy Grand Master of Ohio and Past Master of Scioto Lodge 6 F& AM, and was an active member of all masonic bodies.
A Masonic Funeral Service will be held 1:00 pm Monday at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory. Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call 11:00 – 1:00 Monday at Haller's. Memorial contributions may be made to any Masonic organization or Veterans organization.
