David C. McAllister, 60, of Chillicothe, died at 5:00pm Saturday, January 3, 2009, in Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Chillicothe, following an extended illness. Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday in Springlawn Cemetery, Williamsport, OH, under the direction of Haller Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Dean, VFW Chaplain, officiating. David was born May 16, 1948, in Pickaway County to Denman Clark and Betty I. Sullivan McAllister. Surviving are his mother, Betty I. McAllister; his sister Marilyn "Mac" Hawk; both of Chillicothe; his son David C. (Cheryl) McAllister II, Gilbert, AZ; daughter Michelle Mudd, Elizabethtown, KY; 5 grandchildren; brother-in-law Fred Hawk; nephews Hans and Jamie Hawk; and several aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his father and a sister, Candice McAllister. David was a graduate of Westfall High School, Class of 1966. He retired from the US Army having served his country from 1968 until 1991 and had reached the rank of Warrant Officer. He was a member of the VFW, Post 108, where he had served as 1st vice-commander; the American Legion, Post 62; and the Loyal Order of Moose. He also served as a member of the Honor Guard and former member of the Color Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Haller Funeral Home.
