David J. Graves, 79, of Chillicothe, died at 9:20pm July 27, 2022, at his residence following an extended illness. He was surrounded by his family. He was born June 8, 1943, in Ross County, to the late Hayward D., Sr. and Dollie (Thimmes) Graves. Surviving are his former wife and caregiver Shirley Huff; son Greg (Teresa) Graves; daughter Stephanie (Danny) Smith, all of Chillicothe; grandchildren: Brice Graves and his companion Tori Neff, Destany Graves and Skyler Graves; and his fur-baby and "brown-eyed girl" Jenni. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Hayward Graves; and sisters Evelyn Hopper and Ree Cottrill. David retired in 2000 as a supervisor from the Mead Paper Co. following over 40 years of service and was a graduate of Huntington High School. He was an avid open-wheel dirt track racing fan and built his first race car at the age of 14. He was a member of the Atomic Speedway Hall of Fame and member of Eagles, Aerie 600. He also loved to play golf, go fishing, especially at Lake Erie, and spending time with his family. The family would like to give special thanks to Adena Hospice and "My Girl," nurse Emily for going above and beyond for him. His funeral service will be held 11am Tuesday, August 2, at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory, Chaplain Bruce Hines officiating. Burial will follow in Green Summit Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8pm Monday at the funeral home.
