The Honorable Judge David Alan Cutright, 83, of Chillicothe, died at Adena Medical Center on November 1, 2018, due to medical complications related to a pre-existing heart condition.
David was born to James Francis Cutright and Eva Marie (Bonner) Cutright on October 9, 1935, in Chillicothe, Ohio, and graduated from Chillicothe High School. He attended the University of Cincinnati, graduating in 1957 as a member of Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in History, and in 1959 he obtained his Juris Doctorate. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1959-1965. Beginning his law career as an attorney, he served two terms as city solicitor of Chillicothe and two terms as Ross County Prosecutor. In 1978, he began 18 years of exemplary service as a Municipal Court Judge. A thoughtful, fair, and skilled civil servant, Judge Cutright was distinguished among his peers with multiple awards and certificates of appreciation for delivering justice with integrity, dignity, and decency.
A devout Catholic, he was an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, serving as usher and lector, a Eucharistic Adoration participant, a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society, and in various other ministries. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Chillicothe Noon Rotary, and volunteered with hospice care and with the Ross County Genealogical Society. In his leisure time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, gardening, reading, history, watching the weather, a good meal, and a good bottle of single malt scotch.
David is survived by his wife, Josephine (Jody) Cutright and his four children, Martha (John) Sarra, Cincinnati, OH; Cathy (Tim) Whalen, Colonial Beach, VA; David P. Cutright, Columbus, OH; Joanie (Brandon) Baker, Cornelius, NC.; 10 grandchildren: John (Julia) Sarra, Anna Sarra, Emmy Sarra, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; Frankie Whalen, West Point, NY; Nicholas Whalen, Cleveland, OH; Jack and Josephine Whalen, Annapolis, MD; MacKenzee Cutright, Circleville, OH; and Kathryn and Sydney Baker, Cornelius, NC; his sister-in-law, Kathryn Hirsch, and brother-in-law, Bill Hirsch. He was predeceased by his brother James (Jim) Cutright and Richard (Dick) Cutright.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Saturday, November 10, 2018 at St. Peter Church, Rev. Sean Dooley, Celebrant. Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 pm Friday at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory, where a prayer service will be held at 8:00 pm, Friday.
