Darrell O'Dell

Darrell R. O'Dell, 78, of Chillicothe, died at 4:18pm Sunday, July 30, 2023, at his residence, following a extended illness.   He was born December 8, 1944, in Chillicothe, to the late Donald and Dorothy (Murch) O'Dell. On October 22, 1966, he married the former Janet E. Janes, who survives.   Also surviving are his children: Todd (Larene) O'Dell, of Chillicothe; Andrea (Jason) McKnight, of Stoutsville; Sarah O'Dell, Chillicothe; and Zachariah (Briana) O'Dell, of Ashley, OH; 9 grandchildren:Brendan and Gabriel O'Dell, Emily Gearhart, Mikaela (Nate) Mettler; Ruth, Abigail, and Eian McKnight; Wesley and Ariah O'Dell; great-grandchildren: Archer Gearhart and Maddox Mettler; his brother Donald (Marta) O'Dell, Jr.; his sister Marilyn Black; a sister-in-law Jacky O'Dell; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers: Charles, Roger and Howard.   Darrell was a member of Walnut St. UMC and retired from Kenworth Truck Co. He was a graduate of Unioto High School, Class of 1963 and served his country in the US Air Force and Air National Guard. He was a member of the VFW, Post 108, the American Legion, Post 62, the Ross Co. Historical Society and the Christian Family Pioneers. Darrell also was a former 4H Advisor and supervisor of the goat barn at the Ross Co. Fair. In addition to Kenworth, he worked for ODNR was instrumental in their program to bring bald eagles to southern Ohio. He also enjoyed farming and carpentry.   Private military graveside services for the family will be held in Little Mound Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4pm August 19, at their home, 2146 Dry Run Rd., Chillicothe.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
