Craig Hitchens

January 17, 1969 — April 13, 2010

On April 13, 2010, Craig A. Hitchens, 41, of Chillicothe, went home to be with his Lord and Savior. He was a devoted son to his mother, Marcella Hitchens, who survives. On April 13, 1996, he married the love of his life, the former Michelle "Missy" Letsche, and together they built a life with his son, Anthony "Humpty" Hitchens. Then they were blessed with a daughter, Destini. Craig loved his family more than anything on this earth. Also surviving are his father-in-law and mother-in-law Ralph and Patricia Letsche; sister Terri (Victor) Tanner; sister-in-law Rayetta Caugherty; brothers-in-law Vernon "V.G." (Gerri) Lambert; and Tony (Trisha) Lambert. He was very close to all his nieces and nephews, which include Zachariah Lambert; Dustin Shanton; Luke Lambert; Tia Shanton; Shawnte' Turner; Raechele Turner; Michael Turner; Valaree Lambert; Shawn Turner; Alyssa Lambert; Joshua Lambert; Jeremy Lambert; Karlie Lambert; Victor Tanner; and Tori Tanner. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews; and his grandmother-in-law Mary Letsche, whom he loved dearly. Craig was a 1987 graduate of Chillicothe High School and went on to play basketball at Dyke College. He was an avid sports fan and played basketball and softball for many years. He was a former assistant coach with the Chillicothe Cavaliers basketball program. He was also an active member of Real Joy Community Fellowship, where he coached the women's softball team. Craig was a friend to many. He never met a stranger and was always there to lend a hand, crack a joke or share a story. He will be sorely missed. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, April 17, at Zion Baptist Church, 84 S. Clinton Rd., with Rev. Tony Lambert and Rev. Robert Hitchens, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 5-8pm at Zion Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Haller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Real Joy Long Range Planning Committee or the Destini Hitchens College Fund, both c/o Ross County Banking Center, 222 E. Main St., Chillicothe, or any bank branch.
