Clara Matheny

Clara L. Matheny, 75, of Chillicothe, died 4:45 pm, Sunday, February 22, 2009, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 1, 1934 in Chillicothe to Walter J. and Vida M. Tucker Michaels. She married Harry Matheny, who survives. Also surviving are her children, Gerald (C.J.) Congrove Jr., of Chillicothe, Vicki Congrove, of Toledo, Charles Congrove, of New Marshfield, OH, and Doug (Missy) Matheny, of Chillicothe; 7 grandchildren, Angela (Hoyt) Martin, Cindy (Josh) Dresbach, Beth (David) Chaffin, Caleb and Autumn Congrove, and Collin and Catherine Matheny; 8 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Winnie (Brent) Helwig, of Canton and Margaret (Tuffy) Hayburn; a brother-in-law, Walter Jinks, of Lancaster; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by six sisters, Mary Phillips, Theresa Fout, Ruth McCatherine, Betty Bennett, Dolores Jinks, and Barbara Wisecup; and a brother, Nicholas Michaels. Mrs. Matheny formerly managed WCHI Radio and worked for Huston's Gifts. She was a former member of the Soroptomist Club, the First Capital Doll Club and volunteered as a reading tutor. She was a member St. Mary Catholic Church, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am Friday, Rev. Lawrence Hummer Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call 5-8 pm Thursday at Haller Funeral Home, where a wake service will be held at 8:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the church at 61 S. Paint St., Chillicothe, OH 45601.
