Cindy Hurley

Cindy Marie Hurley, 58, of Chillicothe, passed away at 2:14am on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at her home, following a long time battle with Huntington's chorea disease. She was born on January 11, 1959, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to the late Raymond and Edna (Hollis) Detty. Surviving are her three children and seven grandchildren, Elizabeth L. Detty (Taylor J. and Chloe R. Ball), Tabitha V. Hurley (Kailey M.), and Virgil M. Hurley, Jr., (Virgil M. III "Bubba", Levi M., Stephanie L., and Carson A.); two brothers, Mark R. (Kathy) Detty, and Christopher J. (Toad) Detty. In addition to her parents, Cindy was preceded in death by the two loves of her life, Virgil M. Hurley, who died in 2017, and Mark A. Schumann, who died in 2011. Also a daughter, Crystal L. Hurley, a brother, Michael C. Detty, her niece Jada L. Detty, a nephew, Aaron M. (Shelly) Detty, and a dear family friend, Margaret L. Martin. Cindy spent her last five years attending the National Church Residence Center for Senior Health on Western Avenue. There she met so many wonderful people and made many great friends. She was a kind and caring person, so full of life. She enjoyed going to flea markets, yard sales, county fairs, and visiting family and friends. She helped take care of her three brothers after her mother was diagnosed with the same disease. She has taken in and care for many more since her brothers, and has been known as "Mom" and "Momma". Cindy will be greatly missed by all of the people whose lives she touched. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Nina's Home Health Care of Chillicothe for always being there when she needed. Cindy's body has been donated to the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, in hopes of one day finding a cure or a better understand of Huntington's disease.
