Chester A. Baer, 94, of Chillicothe, died September 11, 2015 at Heartland of Chillicothe. He was born July 25, 1921 in Pike Co. to the late George A. Baer and Nellie Marshall Baer Twyman. On September 22, 1951 he married Betty C. Conley, who preceded him in death in 1999. Survivors include three sons, Chester A. (Marta), Douglas A., and John D. (Joyce) Baer; two daughters, Rebecca K. (Bruce) O'Neal and Grace E. Baer; five grandchildren, Philip, Amy, and Thad O'Neal, and Joseph and Bethany Beardsley; several great grandchildren including Ryan Beardsley and Liam O'Neal; several nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends, including special friends Keith Tanner, Chester Austin and Sherrie Chaney. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jesse, Lyman and George (Marie) Baer; two sisters, Grace (Henry) Mone and Ina (Ed) Ray; a son, Claude G. Baer; a daughter, Jenny E. (James) Davis; a grandson, Timothy A. O'Neal; and a stepson, Jim Adams. Mr. Baer was a US Navy World War II veteran, serving as an aviation metal smith PB4 & PBM Squadrons. He retired from Chilpaco following 35 years of service, and was a farmer. He loved reading and learning about history, especially the Civil War and his family genealogy. He was a member of the Christian Life Tabernacle Church and the Ross Co. Genealogy Society, and the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday at the Haller Funeral Home, Pastor Phil Rutherford officiating. Military graveside services will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
