Charles "Jiggs" Edward Young passed away in Chillicothe, Ohio, on the morning of his 83 rd birthday, April 27, 2018. He was born in 1935 in Chillicothe, Ohio, to the late Helen E. (Schneider) Holcomb and Edgar Joseph Young. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judith A. (Finley); his children: Ann E. (Bob) Perkins of Chillicothe, OH, Jennifer J. Young (Brian Schaeffer) of Columbus, Ohio, Joshua H.V. (Keri) Young of Chillicothe, OH; and grandchildren: Justin B. Perkins of Neosho, MO, Jessica B. (Jacob) Williams and Maylee B. Young of Chillicothe, OH. He is also survived by half-siblings: Lana Sullivan of Houston, TX, Major Young of Chillicothe, OH, uncle, William "Bill" Schneider of Columbus, OH and many other loved ones. He is preceded in death by daughter, Amy C. Young, step-father Earl V. Holcomb, maternal grandparents Edwin and Helen Schneider; and half-brother, Robert Young. He joined the Navy in 1952 during the Korean War and travelled around the world to return to his hometown to find the love of his life, Judy They married on June 8, 1956. He started his career as a bell hop at the Warner Hotel followed by HR and Purchasing roles at Johns-Manville, Mead Corporation, Ohio State and Adena Hospitals. His greatest passion was the game of golf beginning in the 1970's where he spent many decades swinging clubs, telling stories and perfecting his game at Jaycee Golf Course. All who knew him knew his tenacious competitive spirit. His many life adventures included high-diving and swimming, coaching basketball at Bishop Flaget in the early 60s, dancing at the Chicken Inn, boating (and repairing) "Ferdinand", his 1931 Chris-Craft boat, fishing in Canada, woodworking, treasure hunting for arrowheads and breeding and raising Standardbred horses. He was a great friend to many and loved spending Wednesdays with his poker buddies, and watching and rooting for Kentucky and Ohio State basketball over the phone with his dear, lifelong friend, Tom McDermott, of Lexington, KY. He had a passion for good food, good wine, good music and above all else, a tremendous love for friends and family. Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm, Tuesday May 1, at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory. Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8pm Monday at Haller Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ross Co.
